Abgesehen von den Teepartybildern war dieses Bild wohl eines der schwierigsten und aufwändigsten Fotos, die ich je umgesetzt habe.
Die Uhren wurden nicht digital eingefügt, sondern gekauft und von einer speziell angefertigten Konstruktion herabgehängt (ach ja, das Bett haben wir auch gekauft...)
Sie später einzufügen, wäre wahrscheinlich einfacher gewesen, da es alles ewig gedauert hat und sie sich während des Shootings ständig drehten.
Daniel und Robin (Ciras Begleitperson), standen zu je einer Seite und waren konstant dabei die Uhren in die richtige Position zurück zu drehen...
Sie haben uns das Leben wirklich hart gemacht. Ganz davon abgesehen, dass ich noch immer den Großteil in meinem Keller habe...

Next to the teaparty this picture was one of the most complex ones.

The clocks were not digitally added but bought and hung from a construction we build for this shooting (oh and we bought a bed, too)...

Adding them afterwards would probably have been much easier since they wouldn't have spent most of the shooting time twisting around and making my life harder...

Daniel and Robin (a friend of Cira's) were positioned left and right to the bed and had to turn the clocks again and again (thanks again for not complaining, guys!).

Also, I still have most of the clocks in my cellar. I'm still trying to figure out what to do with them.

.i am alice and i am done

Letzten Freitag war es also soweit. Meine Diplompräsentation. Sie ist wirklich sehr gut gelaufen, besser als ich gehofft hatte. Daher dürft ihr mich nun offiziell Fotodesignerin schimpfen ;) Leider habe ich von der Ausstellung selbst keine Bilder, nur den Handyshot oben, da ich wenig Zeit hatte. Viele Leute, die mir gratulieren oder etwas zu meiner Arbeit und dem Buch sagen wollten. Das Buch, meine Diplomarbeit. Der Grund, warum ich mich hier (oder überall) so rar gemacht habe. Da ich schon von einigen gefragt wurde, wie es denn nun aussieht, habe ich mich entschlossen euch ein paar Bilder zu zeigen, sowie den Einleitungstext zu posten, damit ihr das endgültige Thema und eine Erklärung zur Umsetzung findet. Viel Spaß und lasst mich wissen, was ihr denkt :)
 

Last Friday was the day. My diploma presentation. It went pretty well, better than I hoped, actually. So now you may officially call me a Photodesigner!

Unfortunately I only have one mobile phone picture of the exhibition since I had hardly any time. There were a lot of people wanting to congratulate me or talk with me about my diploma and the book.

The book. The reason why I was hardly around the last few weeks. Since a lot of people asked me to show you some pictures I will. Also I'll post my initiation so you can finally read about my intentions and why I did everything this way.

 Als Lewis Carroll die Idee zu „Alice im Wunderland“ hatte, konnte er nicht wissen, dass er somiteines der beliebtesten Kinderbücher aller Zeiten erschaffen hatte. Die Faszination, die von den Erzählungen ausgeht, ist heute nicht schwächer als vor 145 Jahren. Ganz im Gegenteil. Sie sind so reich an Fantasie und einer ganz eigenen Logik, dass sie immer wieder als Vorlage für Neuinterpretationen dienen und nie an Aktualität verlieren. Lewis Carrolls Bücher sind die Geschichte eines Mädchens, das auf der Suche nach sich selbst ist. Auf Alice‘ Reisen durch das Wunderland verliert sie immer wieder den Boden unter den Füßen. Sie vergisst ihren Namen, vergisst, wer sie ist, und bemerkt die Veränderung, die in ihr stattfinden und sie zu einer ihr völlig fremden, neuen Person machen. Jene Gefühle der Verlorenheit und Verwirrung sind etwas, das jedes Mädchen auf dem Weg zur Frau durchlebt. Ich habe mich mit diesem Selbstfindungsprozess beschäftigt, im Hinterkopf immer Carrolls Geschichten. Da für mich Alice nicht ein einziges Mädchen ist, sondern eine Alice in jeder jungen Frau steckt, habe ich mich dafür entschieden, meine Version der Geschichte episodenweise mit wechselnden Hauptdarstellerinnen zu erzählen. In diesem Buch habe ich elf Alice auf die Suche nach sich selbst geschickt und jede von ihnenteilt ein kleines Stück ihrer Reise mit uns. Diese verlaufen nicht linear und sind keine reine Umsetzung des Basismaterials, sondern vielmehr eine Anlehnung. Alice ist nicht einfach eine einzelne fiktive Person. Sie ist ein Lebensgeist, eine Wahrheit. Sie ist das kleine Mädchen in uns allen, das versucht, seinen Weg durch eine verwirrende Welt zu finden und ans Ziel zu gelangen – wo auch immer dieses liegen mag.

When Lewis Carroll had the idea to "Alice in Wonderland" he could hardly know he was just inventing one of the most popular children's books of all time. The fascination of this story today is not smaller than 145 years ago. Actually the opposite is the case. The tales are so rich of imagination and its very own logic that they are the base of dozens of new interpretations and never lose actuality.

Lewis Carrolls books are the story of a girl on the search for herself. On her journey through wonderland Alice loses the ground. She forgets her own name, forgets who she is and notices changes in her, creating a very new and strange person. These feelings of forelornness and bewilderment are something every girl feels on her way to become a woman.

In my diploma I devoted myself with this progress of self-discovery, always with Carroll's stories in mind. 

For me Alice is not one girl but every girl. This is the reason I chose to use not one but many Alice, telling every episode with another protagonist.

In this book I send eleven Alice on the search for themself and every one of them is taking us along for a small part of her journey. These are not linear and no simple conversion of the original material, they are more of a dependence.

Alice is not one fictional character. She's a state of mind, a truth. She's the small girl in everyone of us, trying to find her way in a confusing world, looking for her destination. Wherever it may be.

Die letzten beiden Bilder sind in Belgien entstanden und der Grund, warum ich leider meinen Gamescom-Trip verkürzen musste.

The last two pictures were made in Belgium and are the reason I had to shorten my trip to Gamescom.

 

Die Textzeilen, die auf einigen Seiten sind, sind Zitate aus den Alice-Büchern. Sie dienen als roter Faden und erklären teilweise meine Bildintentionen. 

The small pieces of text you can see on some pages are quotes from the Alice books. They are my read thread and explain some of the thoughts I had behind the pictures next to them. 

 

Natürlich sind das nicht alle Bilder und Episoden, sondern nur Ausschnitte. Insgesamt sind es 11 Episoden auf 112 Seiten. Zur Zeit mache ich mir Gedanken über eine eventuelle Publikation, passende Verlage oder eventuell Selbstverlag. Ich werde euch auf dem Laufenden halten wie sich alles so entwickelt.

There are more photos of course. There are 11 episodes on 112 pages. Currently I'm thinking about publication possibilities,fitting publishing houses or even self-publishing.

I will tell you if there's something to be told.

.after the teaparty

Gestern war meine Teeparty. So sah es gegen Ende des Shootings aus, als 8 von 9 Models schon weg waren. Nur der tapfere Märzhase Daniel war noch da zum aufräumen. Professionelle Fotografin, die ich bin, habe ich das Bild natürlich mit der Handykamera gemacht.
Ich bin noch immer müde, aber recht zufrieden mit meiner Ausbeute. Ich hoffe euch bald mal wieder etwas zeigen zu können, nur komme ich zur Zeit mit der Bildbearbeitung kaum nach.
Zu viele Shootings in letzter Zeit. Alleine diese Woche habe ich noch fünf...

Da ich festgestellt habe, dass ich hier mein Diplomthema nie wirklich erklärt habe, wird es langsam Zeit das nachzuholen. Weiter gehts nach dem Cut.

Since I noticed I never really explained my diploma theme around here, I thought it'd be time to chance that. Read everything after the cut.

Wie die meisten von euch wohl mitbekommen haben, basiert mein Diplomthema lose auf den Geschichten "Alice im Wunderland" und "Alice im Spiegelland" von Lewis Carroll. Ich bin gerade dabei eine neue, moderne Version seiner Bücher zu entwerfen, verknüpft mit den Geschichten heranwachsender, junger Frauen. Ihre Probleme, ihre Träume. Ihre Suche nach der Person, die sie einmal sein werden.
Das alles erzähle ich in mehreren Episoden. Einige sind recht nah am Basismaterial, in anderen muss man nach der Alice-Inspiration suchen.
Da ich mehr als eine Geschichte entwerfe, habe ich auch mehr als nur eine Alice.
Zur Zeit sind es drei, aber ihre Zahl wächst rasant.

Und ja, ich weiß, dass Alice gerade ein sehr beliebtes Thema ist.
Ich liebe Burton, den Film mochte ich nicht sonderlich (großartige Bilder, sehr schwache Story) und das Timing hasse ich. Als ich mir mein Thema vor circa zwei Jahren ausgesucht habe, habe ich nicht im Traum daran gedacht, dass ich Mitten in einem Alice-Hype landen würde....
Ich versuche ihn sogut es geht zu ignorieren und alles burtonesque zu vermeiden, damit ich mein eigenes Wunderland erschaffen kann.
Hoffen wir, dass es klappt.

Oh und (Arbeits)Titel meiner Arbeit ist, wie oben schon angedeutet Ich bin Alice. Dieser bezieht sich nicht darauf, dass ich Alice bin, sondern, dass jedes Mädchen Alice ist.


As some might know by now my diploma theme is loosely based on "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice behind the looking glass".
I'm inventing a new, modern version of Carroll's work, weaving it together with stories of young women growing up, the problems and troubles they face. The dreams they have. Their search for the person they are meant to be.
I'm telling several stories in different episodes. Some are closer to the Alice-stories you might know, in some you have to search for the inspiration.
Since I'm telling more than one story, I'm using more than one Alice.
Right now I have three but their number is growing.

And yes, I know that Alice seems to be a popular theme right now.
I love Burton, I didn't like the movie a lot (amazing visuals with a very poor story) and I hated the timing. When I picked my theme two years ago I would never have dreamed to land in the middle of this Alice-Hype... I'm trying to ignore it and not come to close to anything burtonesque with my version of Wonderland.
Let's hope I'll be successful.

Oh and like mentioned above, the workingtitle of my diploma is I am Alice which does not mean that I am Alice but that every girl is Alice.
